Mary Auvella (Maxcy) George passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 from the effects of a stroke she suffered August 24th. She was born December 12, 1926 & lived her entire life in Edmond & Oklahoma City. In her late twenties, she met & fell in love with a young man from Arkansas, Horace A. George. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1963.
She graduated from Edmond High School with honors in May, 1944. She was an active member of the Edmond Glee Club throughout her high school years & she played the violin. Following graduation, she went to work for Video Viewmore where she worked as a secretary until her retirement in 1988.
She & her husband loved traveling, she was an avid reader, enjoyed old movies, dabbled in oil painting & was especially interested in history. She loved authentic handmade jewelry created by the Navajo Indian artists & she had quite a talent for crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her parents William L. and Vernon E. Maxcy and a sister, Maxine Harrold Hubble. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Horace A. George, nephews, Mike & wife, Tomi Harrold, of Seymour, TN, Steve & wife Sally Harrold of Edmond, OK & David Harrold, Edmond, OK .
A celebration of her life will be held 2pm Monday, September 25 in the Chapel at Resthaven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati OH 45250-0301 or donate online at www.dav.org/methods-to-donate.
The family wishes to thank all personnel of Integris SW Medical Center, Jim Thorpe Rehab, Accel at Crystal Park Rehab, Integris Hospice and personal caregivers, Shauna & Lauren Holder who so lovingly cared for Auvella during her recent illness.
