Tribute

Yoneko Lee Lewellen passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 7, 2018. Yoneko was born in Tokyo, Japan to Takahiro & Kuni Yamashita. She met the love of her life, Rex Lewellen, while they both commuted by train, in Tokyo while he was stationed there with the US Army. Yoneko faithfully attended and served Southern Hills Baptist Church and Baptist Temple of OKC Japanese Language Church. She was instrumental with organizing the weekly visitation program for the homebound and nursing home members of both churches. Having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and lived her life by faith and works, we know she is with her Heavenly Father for eternity, and we will see her again one day.

Yoneko was predeceased by her parents, Takahiro and Kuni Yamashita, a younger brother, husband Rex Lewellen, son Gene Lewellen and daughter-in-law Melinda Lewellen. She is survived by sisters Hisae Sato, Utae Suzuki and brother Motoichi Yamashita, son Terry, son David and wife Patty, and 8 grandchildren: Courtney, Whitney, Eric, Maggie, Courtney, Chris, Nicole, Tyler and Shane plus 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews plus special friends Yoneko “Nancy” Tanaka and Ayako “Rocky” Landt. She will be remembered for her sturdy self-reliance, her graciousness and unconditional love and devotion to her family, churches and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Baptist Temple of OKC Japanese Language Church, 2433 NW 30th St, OKC, OK 73112.
