William “Bill” Carlye Twitty, 93, died November 4, 2017 in Oklahoma City. He was born October 16, 1924 in Sayre, OK to Zenus E. and Lula J. (Hastings) Twitty. Bill lost his father at a young age and was raised by his mother and grandmother. As a child, he was known as “Billy Carl” while growing up in Sayre.
Bill served in the US Army during WWII and was wounded serving his country in the European Theater. His decorations and citations included the WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, One Bronze Service Star, as well as the Purple Heart.
Bill was employed at Tinker Air Force Base before transferring to the FAA, where he would retire a successful federal career.
Bill never slowed down while working his family business, including both his marine and storage businesses, with son, Gary and daughter in law, Melissa.
Bill enjoyed life to the fullest, whether he was playing bridge, dancing, fishing, or taking it easy on a cruise ship. Bill will certainly be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zenus and Lula Twitty; sister, Helen B. Twitty Slayman; wife, Betty L. Twitty; and son, Gary D. Twitty.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Margaret Mason; daughter in law, Melissa Twitty; nieces, Judy Onken, Jan Lawlor, Jill Dausin and their families.
