Tribute

W. Gene Williams went to meet the Lord on July 10, 2018. He was born on August 24, 1926, to Duval and Geneva Payne Williams in Sulphur, OK. He married Dorothy L. Sims on January 25, 1944, in Madill, Ok. They celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2016 before her passing. He left high school after 10th grade and joined the Navy. He served as a Radioman 1st Class during World War II. After the war, he worked as a Railroad Telegrapher for the SLSF (St. Louis-San Francisco) Railroad, first in Texas and then Oklahoma. He later owned his own automotive repair business and worked at his father’s heavy equipment operation business in Sulphur, Ok., before joining the Sulphur Police Department and also becoming a volunteer fire fighter. He became Chief of Police of Sulphur in 1950. He joined the Oklahoma City Police Department on May 15, 1960. He retired as a Lieutenant in June 1980. On top of all of his employment he worked from sun up to sun down on the farm raising cattle and family that he dearly loved. He was available and would stop whatever he was working on to help family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers when needed. He attended First Baptist Church of Newalla, Ok. He was preceded in death by his parents Duval and Geneva Williams Clay; one daughter, Cathy D. Routen; two brothers: Wallace Junior Williams and James “Dub” Williams; one sister Glenna Kaye Haynes. He is survived by one brother, Jerry Wayne Williams and sister-in-law Cheryl; daughter Carol Moses; daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Bill Given; daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Jim Locke; son Clay and daughter-in-law June Williams, all of McLoud, OK; and son-in-law Tim Routen, Sr., Las Vegas, NV. Grandchildren: Curtis and Pam Moses, Noble, OK; Chris and Cheryl Moses; Travis and Shelly Given; Jennifer and Eric Foutch; Tim Jr. and Carolyn Routen; Isaac Locke and wife Erica, all of McLoud, OK; Eric Locke and wife Alicia, Okla. City; Lori and Susan Mussett-Carter of Sherman, Texas; LaDonna and Keith Horton, Edmond, OK.; Waylon and Emily Nickell, Moore, OK; Darrellynne and Kevin Crawford, Harrah, OK; Cherie and Josh Whitener, Moore, OK; Kevin DeHaven, Ft. Stockton, TX; Chris DeHaven, Midwest City, OK; Clay Williams II; Preston Williams and Pauline James; Brandon and Jeanenne Williams; Logan Williams and Becca Maust, all of McLoud, OK. Great-great-Grandchildren: Hailey, Brandon, and Abby Holman, Noble, OK; Lena Skinner, Noble, OK; Matthew Gates, Midwest City, OK; Jake Gates, Blanchard, OK; Jaycelynn Given, Choctaw, OK. Great-great-great Grandchild: Grace Gates, Midwest City, OK. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Viewing will be on Thursday, July 12th from 9:00AM-8:00PM. 500 SW 104th, Okla. City, OK. Services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, July 13, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Newalla, 20800 SE 59th St., Newalla, OK. Services will be officiated by Pastor John Walker of First Baptist of Newalla.
