Thelma Goucher

Thelma Goucher, born Thelma Jean Brakefield, on July 22, 1928 in Allen, Oklahoma went to heaven on April 12, 2017. She was one of seven children born to Ernest and Lou Brakefield. Thelma graduated from Yukon High School and then attended business college. She married Leonard Goucher in December, 1946 and they were married for 45 years until his death in 1991. She was a claims processor for Aetna Insurance and retired at the age of 50 to pursue other interests. Thelma co-owned Casual Fashions, a ladies dress shop, with her sister Dean Wilson and worked as a volunteer for the Moore Hospital. She was a member of Community Christian Church and had a history of working with young people. Thelma went to camp as a sponsor, worked as a camp cook, baked for fundraisers and rocked many babies in the nursery. At the age of 70 Thelma married Lonnie McCalip and they were married for six years until his death in 2005.
She was preceded by her parents; brothers, Chet, Dave, J.B., and Tom Brakefield; husbands, Leonard Goucher and Lonnie McCalip; brothers-in-law, Arnold and Bill Goucher; and sister-in-law, Edna Goucher.
Thelma is survived by her children, Clyde & Jackie Goucher of Litchfield Park, AZ and Cindy & Jerry Smith of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Chad and Malisa Goucher, Christy Smith, Charity and Jeff Kersey and Cole Smith; her pride and joy – great-grandchildren, Paden, Autumn, Peri and Presley Goucher, Matthew, Andrew, Elisabeth, Hannah and Rebekah Chandler, Gage and Riley Kersey and Rosalie Smith; sister, Dean Wilson of Moore; brother, Charles Brakefield of Yukon; brother-in-law, Don Goucher of El Reno; many nieces, nephews and friends who were adopted family members.
Services to celebrate Thelma’s life will be 10:00am Monday, April 17th in The Chapel at Resthaven. Visitation will be Sunday beginning at Noon, with family to receive friends from 4-6pm. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.
