The family of Dail Bates is sad to announce the passing of their hero, Thursday, January 16, 2020, in Oklahoma City at Legends Memory Center at Rivendell. He had several health issues over the past several months.
Dail was born August 12, 1928 at Anderson Creek near Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Nix, on August 14, 1953, soon after he returned from service in Korea.
Dail graduated from Buffalo Valley High School in 1949. He attended Eastern Oklahoma Junior College playing basketball where he attained his Associates Degree. The US Army drafted him and he served in Korea until 1953. He also attended East Central University but did not finish his degree.
He worked for Oklahoma Natural Gas Company repairing leaks for over 25 years before retiring in 1986. He coached little league baseball for many years and was a high school basketball referee for over 10 years.
