December 4, 2018 brought to a close 79 years of a life well lived for Sylvia Ann Martin McKee. She was born to Wanda Birla and William Dee Martin in Porum, Oklahoma October 25, 1939. The matriarch of the family, Sylvia loved and put her family first. Once she retired, she took on the role of caring for the grandkids before and after school, spoiling them with snacks, cartoons, and most importantly, sharing bible stories and scripture with them. Sylvia loved her church, reading, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles in her spare time, and enjoying donuts! A wife at the young age of 14, Sylvia married Malford Jones in 1955, with whom she welcomed her three children. In her early years she lived in small towns around Oklahoma including Webbers Falls, Cushing, Ponca City and Tulsa before settling in Oklahoma City in 1955 with her children. Sylvia went on to marry Max McKee in 1970 and they’ve shared 48 years of marriage. Sylvia loved to travel, taking many trips with her daughter Terrie, but none as spectacular as the Alaskan cruise, which she talked of often. They love to talk about all of the places Sylvia would like to visit. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Cecelia Lavon Jones; brothers, Eugene “Wimpy” Martin and infant William Charles Martin. She is survived by her husband, Max McKee; children, Jacky Jones, Chuck Jones and wife Candy, Terrie Tuckey and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Jeremy Jones, Brandy Chambers and husband Lewis, Tyler Cawyer; Max’s children, Carol McFarland and husband John, Steve McKee and wife Toni, Tammy Brown and husband Jerry; grandchildren, Brian and Michelle McFarland, Melissa Gannaway, Chad and Craig McKee, Brent and Krisha Brown; and many great-grandchildren, other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Services to celebrate Sylvia’s life will be 2:00pm Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Capitol Hill Assembly of God with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
