Tribute

After 73 years of a life well lived, Sammie Ray Filippo left his earthly home on March 18, 2018. Sammie was born June 26, 1944 in Oklahoma City to Sam Henry and Hilda Marie (Hinkle) Filippo. He graduated from Del City High School in 1963. Shortly after graduating, he married his sweetheart, Debra Bell. Together, they had four children. Later, on August 12, 1972, he married Lou Smallwood and together they had two children.

During his life, Sammie worked as both a baker and a truck driver. When he wasn’t racing pigeons with his family, he loved to listen to Elvis or watch old movies; “Rocky” was his all-time favorite. Sammie also found joy in photography, model cars, and Coca Cola collectibles.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jimmy Filippo. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, beloved wife of 45 years, Lou Filippo; sons: Sammy Filippo and wife Yolanda, Joe Filippo and wife Carmen, and David Filippo and wife Sarah; daughters: Angela Filippo and husband Mario Hernandez, Tiffany Filippo, and Melody Tatlow and husband Mike; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sisters, Betty Owens and husband Paul, and Opal Owens; and sister in law, Kathy Filippo.
A memorial ceremony will be held 1pm Friday, March 23 in the Chapel at Resthaven.
