Robert Dwight Hammett, 93, of Norman, OK., went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Rio Rancho, N.M.. Robert (Bob) was born on February 16, 1926, in Okmulgee, OK., to Robert J. and Belle Dora Hammett. He married Iris Burchett on December 23, 1949, in Henderson, Kentucky. Bob and Iris met while she was employed at Texaco Corporation in Salem, Illinois. Bob and Iris relocated from Roswell, N.M. to Norman, OK. on April 11, 1981. Bob served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church, and as a Secretary with the Gideon’s. Bob was also an active member of the Masonic Temple-Roswell chapter.
Bob was proud to serve his country as a World War II Naval veteran in the South Pacific. He served with his brother, Coy Hammett.
Bob spent over 40 years in the Natural Gas industry. He was highly respected by everyone that knew him both professionally and personally.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Iris, his parents, and six of his eight siblings. He is survived by daughters Catherine Baker and husband Steve of Eagle Nest, N.M.; Janie Frandsen and husband Keith of Rio Rancho, N.M.; son, Michael Hammett and wife Vicky of Rio Rancho, N.M.; granddaughters, Kelly Koch and husband Joseph of Albuquerque, N.M. and Jessica Baker of Taos, N.M.; grandson; Jacob Baker and wife Jamie of Las Cruces, N.M.; Great-grandchildren; Christopher, Megan, Madelyn Grace Baker of Las Cruces, N.M.; Kolsen Koch of Albuquerque, N.M..
Bob was a devoted Christian man who passed his faith on to his family; he will be greatly missed. His motto was “God first, others second, self last” and lived his life accordingly. We were all blessed to call him “Dad” and be able to go to him for advice or anything else needed.
Bob’s family would like to acknowledge the professionalism of the Beehive Assisted Living Facility in Bernalillo, NM. We also want to recognize the expert care and loving hands at UNM Sandoval Regional Medical in Rio Rancho, N.M. Center.
Visitation for Bob is 2:00pm to 8:00pm, Monday, May 27, 2019 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th St. Oklahoma City, OK 73139. Services are 12:00pm, Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in the Chapel at Resthaven. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
