Ralph Norton, age 84, was born on March 4, 1935 to William Frank and Myrtle Edith Norton in Moore, Oklahoma and went home to his Heavenly Father on November 23, 2019. Ralph graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1953. Ralph served his country in the United States Navy from 1956-1960, he was in the Navy Aviation (serving) on The USS Bennington. Ralph attended The University of Oklahoma where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Business. After earning his degree he worked as a bookkeeper for a couple of years, he worked at Western Electric for a short time until he began a career with FAA as an Electronics Technician. One thing that Ralph thoroughly enjoyed after retirement from FAA was working as an Usher in various theaters in Branson, Missouri, where he got to see numerous acts, such as The Rockettes 104 times in one season. Ralph was a member of the Kiwanis in Mustang where he served as their secretary he enjoyed their community outreach programs. Ralph was also a member of CCY-Christ’s Church of Yukon where he enjoyed serving the Lord and the community in any way that he could. Ralph’s hobbies included traveling, working on old pick-ups, cars and small engines. Ralph was a proud owner of a 1942 Ford Sedan that he enjoyed driving and taking to car shows. Ralph took it as a challenge when people would say, “This can’t be fixed”; therefore, he would fix it! Ralph earned the nickname at FAA as, “Mighty Mouse”!
Ralph married Shirley Jane Holt in 1957, they lived in Moore for a short time before moving to Mustang where they lived until he retired from FAA. In 1964 they adopted a Baby Girl that they named Lisa Ann. In 1990 they moved to Branson, Missouri and started their own jewelry business. In 2000, they moved to Locust Grove to be closer to family and in 2007 they moved back home. Ralph and Shirley enjoyed traveling across America until her death in 2010.
Ralph met Janet in January of 2012 at Chisolm Trail Park in Yukon, Oklahoma and 8 months later they got hitched at the same park! They traveled the United States together with their beloved dog Cody in a 1996 Astro Van. Ralph and Janet accomplished more in 7 years than most couples do in a life time.
Ralph is preceded in death by his parents William Frank and Myrtle Edith Norton, sisters, Edith, Nita, Ruth, Lona, brother, Edward “Buddy”Norton, first wife Shirley Jane Norton and great grandson Jeremiah.
Ralph is survived by his daughter Lisa and her three daughters, Heather, Jennifer and Angela and nine great grandchildren. Ralph is survived by his wife Janet, her son Michael and his sons Timothy and Jacob and many other family members.
Ralph’s viewing will be Friday, November 29, 2019 at Resthaven Funeral Home & Memory Gardens located at 500 SW 104th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73139 at 3:00 pm for family and 4:00 – 8:00 pm for the public. Ralph’s funeral service will be Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the same location at 11:00 am.
