Tribute

Peggy Sue Powers of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord May 27, 2021.  She was born on December 2, 1931 in Burkburnett, Texas to Bethel and Myrtle Dunn.  As a young woman, Peggy was a star athlete in volleyball and basketball.  She and her best friend, Carolyn Reynolds led the teams to many victories and state championships.  Both were inducted into the Burkburnett I.S.D. Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.  Peggy married G.C. Powers December 10, 1949.  They have two sons, Mark and Les.  Peggy was a devoted wife and mother that dearly loved her family.  She was a homemaker, an excellent seamstress and enjoyed working with the flowers in her garden.  She is grandmother to Andrew Powers and great-grandmother to Mariah Powers.  She was so proud of their accomplishments.  Peggy also worked many years as manager of College Cleaners and Magic Cleaners.  She was working downtown the day the Murrah building was bombed.  Over the years, G.C. and Peggy took many fun trips including ones to Hawaii and the unforgettable one to Nashville where G. C. had his picture taken with his favorite country star, Ernest Tubbs!  Together, they hosted many friends and family at their Texoma lake home where you could catch fish and spend hours around the campfire telling stories and sharing great meals.  Peggy lived to serve others unselfishly, putting others' needs above her own - a legacy from her Momma.  At Christmastime, she made hundreds of Martha Washington bon-bons that she gave to family, friends and neighbors.  Peggy was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and served many years at South Lindsay Baptist Church.  She especially loved singing in the choir and did so until covid restrictions kept her home.  She loved watching football with family and cheering for her favorite teams, OU and the Dallas Cowboys.  Other TV favorites were the Young and the Restless, Chicago PD, Fire and Med.  She also loved to shop with friends, especially for shoes! Peggy had a sharp wit, a great sense of humor and lit up lives all around her.  She is a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, aunt and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bethel and Myrtle (Holloway) Dunn; her husband, GC Powers; two brothers, Jesse Dunn and GB Dunn; and one sister, Dora Gant.

She is survived by her two sons, Les Powers of Oklahoma City, and Mark Powers and wife Peggy of Oklahoma City; one grandson, Andrew Powers of Texas; one great granddaughter, Mariah Powers of Norman; many nieces and nephews; and her sweet dog, Amy.
