Mary Ellen Young died peacefully in Dallas, TX on Monday, January 20th, just three days shy of her 90th birthday. 
Mary Ellen Bricker Young was born January 23, 1930, in Iraan, Texas.  She spent her childhood in Bridgeport, Illinois and adolescence in rural Arkansas.  She graduated from Lockesburg High School and received her bachelor’s degree from College of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Arkansas.  Following graduation, Mary Ellen taught music at schools in Wellston and Vinita, Oklahoma. 
Mary Ellen married John William (Jay) Young in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 1, 1955.  Together, they saw much of the world while John served in the US Air Force, residing at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; Etain Air Base, France; Itazuke Air Base, Japan and Yakota Air Base, Japan. 
Mary Ellen loved music her entire life.  In addition to teaching music, she served as chapel organist at Etain Air Base, France; Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; and was both organist and choir director at Capitol Hill Christian Church in Oklahoma City for many years.  She was also a substitute organist at First Christian Church in Oklahoma City while being a member there. 
Mary Ellen retired from the Federal Aviation Administration in 1991, where she worked for more than 25 years.  During retirement, she was a passionate volunteer at Integris Southwest Medical Center, where she logged more than 6,000 volunteer hours. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Alice Jones Bricker and William Arch Bricker; and her husband John William Young.  She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kincaid and husband Eric (Dallas, TX); daughter Jennifer Schmitt and husband Steve (Owasso, OK); son Alan and wife Pam (Irvine, CA); and four grandchildren:  Allison Yturri (nee Kincaid), Sam Schmitt, Sally Schmitt, and Brandon Young.   
Mary Ellen was a wonderful wife, mother and friend, and her faith in God and family was truly inspirational.   
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home (500 SW 104th, Oklahoma City) Friday, Jan. 24th from 6 to 8 pm.  A graveside service will take place at Resthaven on Saturday, Jan. 25th at 10 am.
