Mary Ann Murray, 85, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale, IL.
Mary was born on April 11, 1937 in Oklahoma City, OK to Lawrence and Ada (Atlee) Broady. She grew up on a dairy farm during the depression. Mary married Joe Bob Higgins on June 9, 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1960. Later she married Marion Robert Murray on September 19, 1964 and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1996.
Mary graduated from Putnam City High School and later attended Blackwood College. She was an assistant teacher at Putnam City Methodist Preschool, then, she worked at Mayfield Junior high in the cafeteria. Later, she worked in retail at Street’s clothing store. Lastly, she was employed at Homeland Grocery in the bakery department until she retired. She loved her animals, gardening, and fishing and camping at the lake.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and sister, Norma Tissington, and brother, Allen Broady, and daughters Rosemary Burris and Nancy Sue Murray. Mary is survived by her daughter, Melody Cuff, granddaughters, Angela Murray and Sylvia Manwell, daughter, Phyllis Shademan, grandsons, Jonathan Shademan and Christopher Shademan, whom Mary adopted and raised, and granddaughter Layla Shademan, son, Steven Murray and wife, Stacy (Thompson), grandson, Gabriel Murray, granddaughters Karalyn Murray and Shayla Murray, Rosemary Burris’s children grandson, Gene Jr., granddaughter, Crystal Geiss, her husband Tim Geiss and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mary will be held 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Resthaven Funeral Home in Oklahama City, Oklahoma with Mason Polk officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in her honor to the humane society of your choice.
