Marjorie Joyce Henson

Marjorie Joyce Henson was born December 5, 1926 in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Larue and Leroy Kirkpatrick. She was raised by her mother and step-father, Morris Cunningham on a farm in Gainesville, Texas along with her five brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by sister Mary Cook, brothers Richard Cunningham, and Milton Kirkpatrick.
Following her graduation from Valley View High School in Texas, Marjorie married her high school sweetheart, Gene McCollum. Marjorie was widowed four days after the birth of their son, Gene Dale, when her husband, Gene, passed away from injuries he received in a car accident. She moved to Oklahoma City and began working at Oklahoma National Bank as a teller. She met Harmon Thompson on a blind date and they were soon married. She left the bank and began working for LaRue's Flowers and Gifts, a family business, as a bookkeeper and remained there until her retirement. Marjorie and Harmon added three more children to their family: Tommy, Terry, and Donna. She loved traveling to California and Colorado with Harmon and their children. Tommy and Terry preceded her in death and Harmon passed away after losing his fight with cancer. Marjorie met and married Hershell Henson. They enjoyed attending OU football and basketball games together. They remained together until Hershell's death in 2014. Marjorie assisted with many of her children's activities as a scout leader and a homeroom mother at her children's school. She was a member of Capitol Hill Baptist Church. She loved getting together with family to share stories about their days living on the farm in Texas. She was also a proud member of the Choctaw Nation.
She is survived by the following: Brothers Donald and Jerry Cunningham; Daughter Donna Thompson Smith, husband Gary, Donna's son Jason Short and wife Penny and their children Gabriel and Memory; daughter Dawn Butler and her children Dylan, Dallas, and Mackenzie; and daughter Cary Smith and her children Cassidy and Charley. Gene Dale McCollum's daughter Pamela Cavazos and husband Lupe and their children Nicholas and wife Lisa and their daughter Nevaeh, and daughter Jennifer and her daughter Addison. Tommy Thompson's children: Tommy Joe; Ronnie and wife Shee, their sons Urijah, Gunnar, and Ashton; and Chris and wife Kim and their children Kaelyn and Bradee. Terry Thompson's children: daughter Lisa Hicks and husband Jaymie and their children Miranda, Adam, Naryah, Jaymie Jr., Tyler and wife Amanda and their daughter Emilia, Briana and her children Lane and Lyndi; son Bryan and his children Londyn and Sterling. Hershell Henson's children: Lee Henson and wife Lynn and their children Jamie and grandchildren Troy, Dekaylie , De Shayla, and Jeromi and son Logan; Chad and wife Martha; daughter Brenda Walker and husband Gary, and their son Christopher and wife Samantha and their son Steele; and daughter Julie Weatherford and her daughter Lesley and her children Jynesis, Oakley and Italey and son Louis and his children Kashlyn, Tyler, and Logun.
She also survived by many nieces and nephews.
