February 2, 2019 brought to a close 88 years of life for Lloyd A. Benson of Oklahoma City. He was born on September 22, 1930 to Jacob Lewis (Lew) and Caroline Bertha (Erlenmaier) Benson in Blaine County, Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 children. Lloyd graduated from Greenfield High School in 1948, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Oklahoma City University in 1960. He served in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS Essex from 1950 to 1954 and was honorably discharged in August 1954 as a Yeoman Second Class, USN-1. Lloyd lived in Oklahoma his whole life except for the years served in the Navy. He married to Doris Evelyn Miller on July 27, 1954 in San Diego. California. They enjoyed traveling to many places across the US. He has collected coins, loved watching sports on television (especially football), and was always tinkering on something. Lloyd worked as an industrial engineer at Tinker Air Force Base from September 1966, retiring in January of 1987. He was a member of the USS Essex Association and attended many reunions over the years. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Lewis (Lew) and Caroline Benson; sister, Emily Spahn; and brothers, Earl, Everett and Orville. He is survived by his wife, Doris of the home; daughters, Loretta (Jim) Waterman, and Charlotte (Bruce) Baird; grandchildren, Bethany, Matthew and Tyler Waterman, Abigail and Daniel Baird; and great- grandson, Sawyer Turner. Services to celebrate his life will be Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at 10 am at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moore. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens and a meal will follow the burial in Blanchard Hall at St. John’s Lutheran Church. At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to St John’s Lutheran Church.
