Larry Steven Hay entered his Heavenly home on June 3, 2022 at the age of 74. He was born October 1, 1947 in Austin, TX to Royce and Betty Hay (Hubbard).
Larry grew up in Tulsa, OK and graduated from Tulsa Memorial High School on June 3, 1966. He immediately began courses at the University of Oklahoma, but furthering his education was briefly postponed so that he could answer the call to serve his country. Larry was inducted into the United States Army on December 13, 1967, where he proudly served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in November of 1969. Upon completion of his service, he went back to the University of Oklahoma to study Zoology. While in school, Larry was employed by the Oklahoma City Police Department. He met his soulmate, Denise, in October 1972 and they married on June 30, 1982. Although Larry’s original passion was zoology, however he did not end up with a lifetime career in zoology. Instead, he realized the importance of the service and relationships built within the Oklahoma City Police Department over the course of working there, and ultimately served with his brothers and sisters in blue for over 28 years, retiring as a Sergeant in February 2001.
Larry was a proud member of the RPOA, FOP, and the NRA Oklahoma City Gun Club. He cherished all the wonderful people and relationships that his career gave him. In his earlier life, Larry loved shark hunting and fishing and had an outstanding knowledge and passion for animals of all kinds. In addition, he enjoyed woodworking and was a complete history buff. He rarely watched anything else besides the history channel.
Larry was preceded in passing by his parents.
Those left to continue his legacy include his loving wife of 40 years this month, Denise Hay; his sister, Sally Batterson and husband Robert; and his beloved Chihuahua, Maggie. He is also survived by a host of loving family and friends who will all miss him dearly.
Larry’s Celebration of Life will take place at 10:00am, Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Chapel at Resthaven. The memorial service will be live-streamed for those who would like to attend virtually.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the OCPD Honor Guard, 1624 S. Agnew, OKC, OK 73108.
