Larry Gerald Jackson

October 8, 1946 ~ June 16, 2020 (age 73) 73 Years Old

Tribute

Sgt Larry “Jack” Gerald Jackson, age 73, passed away at his home on June 16, 2020. Because Larry was a very private man, if you wanted to know his cause of death, he would have told you it was none of your business.

Larry was born on October 8, 1946 to LeFlore and Mamie Jackson in Talihina, OK and he grew up in Southwest Oklahoma City. He graduated from Capitol Hill Highschool in 1965.

Larry is a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served three years (1966-1969) with two tours in Vietnam as a United States Marine. He earned several medals, including two Purple Hearts, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. The discipline and grit he learned in the Marines never left him, as friends and family will attest.

After his military service, Larry went on to work in construction as a painter for Devoe Paint. Later in life he attended the University of Central Oklahoma obtaining a bachelor’s degree in education. He was passionate about world history and loved watching the news. He was a handyman and could fix just about anything. He enjoyed playing golf, darts, and watching Dallas Cowboys football.

Larry is survived by three children: Randy Wackerly, Maria Watkins, Amanda Giordano and husband Brian Giordano; seven grandchildren, Ty Watkins and wife Alicia Watkins, Kyle Watkins, Tana Clymer, Kierston Clymer, Jackson Giordano, Shawn Giordano, and Payton Watkins; along with two great grand-children Acelee Ballard and Henry Watkins; and a host of extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Wanda Burton, and his beloved dog Dallas.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 25 at 2pm at The Chapel at Resthaven with interment to follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens. For anyone not able to attend the service, a live stream will be available through Resthaven online at www.resthavenokc.com
