Jonathan McGinley

March 4, 1979 ~ January 30, 2020 (age 40) 40 Years Old

Tribute

Jonathan Clinton McGinley unexpectedly passed from this life at the age of 40 on January 30, 2020. He was born March 4, 1979 in Oklahoma City to Vicki and John McGinley.

Jonathan grew up in Moore and attended Moore schools. As a child, he loved playing little league football, and his love for the sport grew with him over the years. He was an avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan and shared his passion with family and friends. Jonathan pursued a career as a journeyman plumber. He was able to successfully learn the trade through an apprenticeship beginning at the age of 18 and ultimately joined Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 344.

Jonathan married the love of his life, Christie Garrett, on October 16, 2004 on the beach in Maui. They were blessed with 23 years together, over 15 years of marriage, and 3 beautiful children. Although they shared the same marital struggles as most throughout the years, their love for one another was undeniable and unconditional.

Jonathan was always looking for a new interest or hobby. He randomly picked up interests and found joy in everything from fishing, to mini motorcycles, to aquariums, and to raising chickens. Jonathan had several hobbies, but his absolute favorite place to be was with those he loved.

Jonathan was an amazing son, husband, father, brother, and friend. Above all, he was a bright light in so many lives. His witty humor and fun-loving personality will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Although Jonathan is no longer here physically, we know that the legacy he leaves behind will forever bring us continuous laughter and amazing memories.

He was preceded in passing by his grandmother, Donna Owens; and uncles, John Masters and Steve Masters.

Those left to continue Jonathan’s legacy include his parents, Vicki and John McGinley; loving wife, Christie McGinley and their amazing children, Dylan, Tyler, and Isabella; mother-in-law, Julie Raleigh; sister, Melissa Cole and husband Michael, and their children, Mavi, Lane, and Levi; brother, Matthew McGinley and wife Frances, and their children, Emma, Garrett, and Hadley; brother-in-law, Tim Garrett and his son, Jonathan; and sister-in-law, Teresa Garrett. Jonathan is also survived by a host of loving extended family and friends who will all miss him dearly.

Jonathan always loved to help people. Even in this time of sadness, we recognize that he would be so proud that a selfless decision to be an organ donor will change many lives forever. As of January 31, 2020, three recipients were blessed to receive his life saving gifts. That alone is the perfect reminder that he is here with us, each and every day.

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Oakcrest Church of Christ, 1111 SW 89th St, Oklahoma City, OK 73139 Condolences may be shared at www.ResthavenOKC.com.
