Life of John Henry Johnson
Born December 23, 1922

John “Jack” Henry Johnson passed away in his home on February 23, 2021, at the age of 98. Jack was born in Magazine, Arkansas, on December 23, 1922, to Dee Franklin Johnson and Lela (Poff) Johnson. Jack is one of five boys When he was two years old, his family moved to Durant, Oklahoma, and then to McLoud. At age six, his family relocated to Harrah where he finished his eighth and ninth grade years in school. Then they moved to Choctaw where he finished high school. Jack is survived by his brother Granville Johnson of Oklahoma City. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers: Alvin, Glenn, and Charles.
Jack married Bessie Lee Hendrix in 1941. He is survived by their son, Jack Johnson of Richardson, Texas. In 1945, Jack married Lola Erma Caldwell of Tuttle, Oklahoma. They were married for 44 years, before her passing on April 28, 1989. He is survived by their sons: Mike of Oklahoma City, Jerry of Norman, and John of Moore; nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. In 1991, Jack married Mildred Gilbert. She passed on July 23, 2014.
Jack proudly served in the United States Army, during WWII. He held the rank of Master Sergeant. He was in Company C of the 46th Engineers. Jack received the Asiatic-Pacific campaign and the Philippine Liberation Ribbons.
After military service, he worked as a carpenter doing trim work in a number of downtown buildings, such as the First National Bank Building. By 1954, he was a job foreman for the Paddock Pool Company and by 1960 was the job Superintendent over all construction, until 1967. In 1967, Jack and his brother, Granville, founded Sooner Beauty Supply, Inc. He worked at Sooner, until he retired in 1991.
Jack is a Master mason as well as a thirty-second mason Scottish Rite (Guthrie, OK). He is a member of the Shriners, Knights of Columbus.
Mildred and Jack were very active in their church. He became one of the deacons of the Riverlife Church of God.
They loved their lake cabin at Lake Texoma and spent many days a year fishing with their friends, Vie and Cecil Willard, also, from their church. When he wasn’t at the lake, he loved spending his time buying and selling on the stock market. He was Pretty Good at it, too!!!
