John Marshall Degraffenreid passed from this life November 14, 2023 at his home in Oklahoma City. He was born July 2, 1946 in Oklahoma City to Elmer and Juanita Degraffenreid.
John grew up in Shawnee and attended Shawnee and Crooked Oak high schools. During those years, he worked at Sonic in Shawnee to assist his brother, who was the manager there. He then went into the furniture industry and made a successful career from this. He was an amazing salesperson and worked for many years at Mathis Brothers and Bob Mills. John married the love of his life, Rebecca Wahlquist, on February 3, 1968.
John was an avid fisher and golfer. In addition, he loved going to the casino and playing at Newcastle and Riverwind. Above all, he adored his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and watching shows with his grandkids. One of the grandkids’ favorite memories with their grandpa is the numerous times they watched “Land Before Time” together as he was trying to put them to sleep as young children. He also loved all of the cowboy and western shows and anything to do with ghosts and paranormal hunting and sightings.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, Elmer and Juanita Degraffenreid; daughter, Melissa Degraffenreid; grandchildren, Roy and David Cook, and Justin and Jennifer Cook; he was also preceded in passing by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Those left to continue his legacy include his loving wife, Rebecca Degraffenreid; son, John “Bubba” Degraffenreid; daughters, Sherry Cook and husband Roy, and Tammy Gilbreath; grandchildren, Tyler Cook and wife Ashley, Austin Cook and wife Lauren, Brittany Gilbreath, Ashley Taylor and husband Josh, and Riley Degraffenreid and Jilian White; and great-grandchildren, Addyson Eidenshink, Caden Digby, and Wyatt Digby.
