Dr. Jack W. Melton, Jr. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jack was born August 20, 1946 in Ft. Smith, AR, and he passed on September 4, 2018 in Edmond, his hometown of 43 years.
Jack was founder and chief physician at Omni Eye Center. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, founding member of the Society of Contact Lens Specialists, and past-president of the Oklahoma Optometric Association. Jack was a leader in the laser surgery and contact lens industries. He taught optometry at NSU and authored the practice management text, Rx for Success. He received numerous accolades for his professional work.
Jack graduated from Southern College of Optometry. He also attended the University of Central Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, and U.S. Grant High School.
Jack loved travel, sports and photography. He visited all 50 states and 15 foreign countries. You could find him cheering on his kids and grandkids at their games with a camera in his hand. During retirement, he attended photography courses, took photography trips and participated in art shows and contests.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack W. Melton, Sr. and Vera Childers Melton. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janet Lackey Melton; children Lori Melton McKinnon, Rodd Melton, and Ryan Melton; daughters-in-law, Kristi McPherson Melton and Alissa Peterson Melton; siblings Connie Melton Eastburn, Rick Melton, and Vickie Melton Jenkins. Jack is also survived by his eight grandchildren Jake McKinnon, Meredith McKinnon, Claire McKinnon, Kyler Melton, Karson Melton, Luke Melton, Kate Melton, and Ella Melton.
