Jack Derwin Comer, known as Jacket to his family, was born on June 24, 1926 in Beaumont, Texas to Willie Ray and Beryl Comer. Jack served his country during World War II in the United States Army. He married Elizabeth Rachel Newsome on August 21, 1947.
Jack and Betty lived a long and adventurous life together as missionaries in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and America Samoa. Jack was not only a skilled minister who touched countless lives, he was also a great storyteller and possessed a quick wit. His family will remember him as loving and playful, a literal and figurative giant of man with a twinkle in his eye.
Jack’s memory will live on with his wife of 70 years, Betty; his brother, Ken (Frances) of Raleigh, NC; his three sons, Derwin (Linda), of Oklahoma City, OK, Bernie (Connie) of Gallup, NM, and Lin (Barbara) also of Gallup, NM; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Resthaven Funeral Home with family present to greet friends. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 22 at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Please consider honoring Jack’s life with memorial contributions to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or the Southern Hills Baptist Church Mission Fund.
