Howard Douglas “Doug” Stimpson, 70, passed from this life May 10, 2019. He was born June 26, 1948 in Frederick, Oklahoma to Howard C. Stimpson and Beverly G. Eales. Beverly and Doug moved to Oklahoma City and Beverly later married Bob Goins. From this union, Doug’s brother Tony was born.
Doug began a career with the US Army Infantry in 1969, and served in Vietnam. This was followed by service in the National Guard where he became a commissioned officer and held a position in radio relay communications as a team chief. Doug also served in the US Army Reserves until 1987, and was honorably discharged as a Signal Corps 1st Lt.
He received an Associate’s Degree in 1979 from Oscar Rose Junior College and later went to work as a boiler operator at Tinker Air Force Base.
With his call sign, N5GVO, Doug loved Ham radio. He was involved yearly in Aerospace America until its finality. He also loved computers, taking photographs with his cameras, shooting guns, and collecting coins and bullion.
Aside from those hobbies, Doug deeply cherished the time he spent with his granddaughter, Aspen, who he affectionately called “the Colorado kid.” Doug would often pick up things he thought his daughter and granddaughter would enjoy. He also deeply loved his son in law, taking him in as his own and always asking about his well-being. Doug’s kind and caring heart will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Stimpson, Bob and Beverly Goins; and brother, Tony M. Goins.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: daughter, Melissa Stimpson-Sanders and her husband, Rick Sanders, Jr.; granddaughter, Aspen Aurora Sanders; his best friend, Richard Lindsey; and numerous cousins.
