She was the fourth child of six children born to George Frank Artice and Harriet Elizabeth Pate-Artice: Kenneth, Buddy, Betty, Harriette, Cherry Anna and Bobby Artice as well as three half brothers, George, Henry and Leroy Artice
Harriette’s parents struggled during the Depression Years, leaving the family distraught and devastated. Due to their inability to provide for the family and after the death of her little sister Harriette and Betty were placed in state custody and sent to Mt. St. Michaels Catholic School for Girls.
She truly thrived at the school having opportunities that never would have been afforded her on the streets of Dallas.
She shared many colorful stories of her misadventures as a child.
Harriette’s history was her standard and she bore it throughout life. She was a fierce protector of her family and God help you if needed your “beads read” cause you were going to hear from her.
Harriette loved music and while at St. Michaels she became a proficient violinist. Her passion for music continued throughout her lifetime.
She loved to dance!
After leaving the school, she married and had 2 children, Sunny Still and Robert L. Green, Jr. (whose name was changed through adoption). The marriage was challenged by age difference and soon divorce was the only option.
In 1953, Harriette with two kids in tow, moved to Oklahoma City where she found employment as a waitress at an all-night diner in Capitol Hill. Officer Robert L. Green was the “beat cop” on the midnight shift on the Hill. After a short courtship facilitated in great part by 8 year old Sunny, Harriette and Bob were married. They were married for 41 years until his death in 1994.
In 1955, the newlyweds added a much loved baby brother, Micheal Wayne and in 1958 a precious baby sister, Connie Elizabeth was added. However, that was not the end of adding to this family dynamic. In 1968 the family was bless beyond measure with the addition of Susie Reid, the chosen sister.
Harriette danced with life right up to her final hours – Dancing to the beat of her own angels’ wings…
Harriette reluctantly leave behind her daughter Sunny Still, son Robert L. Green, Jr., daughter Susie and husband Robert Reid, son Micheal and wife Sharon Green, and daughter Connie Green. In addition, Harriette was blessed with 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
