Tribute

Granvel William Wood, born November 9, 1923, in Alma, Arkansas, and passed from this life on January 5, 2020, at the age of 96 years. Bill spent his formative years in Alma, Arkansas, Pitcher, Oklahoma, and later in Oklahoma City, where he graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1942. In December of 1942, he volunteered for service in the US Army. Prior to his deployment, he met the love of his life Neketia Vanderheiden. At the end of the war, Bill returned to Oklahoma City and began his career at Tinker Field Air Force Base where he excelled as an Aircraft Engine Specialist investigating causes and corrective actions for aircraft failures worldwide. Bill and Neketia were married February 21, 1946.
Granvel was proceeded in death by his father and mother, Buford Allen Wood and Dorsie Irene Warren Wood Smith; sister, Ruth Beatrice Ross; and his wife of 73 years, Neketia Nadine Vanderheiden Wood.
He is survived by his daughter, Twyla Gayle Taylor and her husband, Robert; grandson, Troy Wayne Harrel and his wife, Carrie, and their children, Christopher, Noah, Ben, and Megan York; granddaughter, Raquel Berkenbile and her husband, Rob, and their children, Kara, Kaelee, Keatan, and Kimberly; as well as many grandchildren.
