Gladys Marie Roe, 96, of Oklahoma City passed away November 18, 2018. She was born July 7, 1922 in Porum, OK to Truman and Maud Ritchie. She was the eldest of their eight children. Gladys graduated from Britton High School in May of 1940 and went on to marry her husband, John Elmer Roe on July 14th of that same year. They had two sons, John Jr. (passed away in infancy) and Robert. She loved being a mother and grandmother, and was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Granny Roe.” Gladys worked briefly as a secretary at Tinker Air Force Base, but spent the majority of her adult life as a homemaker where she took excellent care of her family. Gladys was a woman of strong faith and was a constant source of support to her husband, John, during his years as a pastor. She loved the Lord and joyfully and obediently served Him as a Sunday School teacher for 62 years, and by hosting weekly Bible studies for the children in her neighborhood inside “O Be Joyful” house, located in her backyard. Gladys loved hosting family dinners, watching Wheel of Fortune, and playing Farkle with anyone willing to play.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, John Jr.; brothers: Dale, Byron, and Billie Ritchie; and daughter in law Patricia Roe.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: son, Robert; grandson, Jason Roe and his wife CeAnna; granddaughter, Tonya Lewis and her husband Danny; great grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan Lewis; sisters, Pauline Walton, Pearline Lively, Dorothy Hart, and Mona Landrum; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday from 1-8pm. A celebration of Gladys’s life will be held 10am Saturday in the Chapel at Resthaven.
