Welcome to the memorial page for

George Oravetz

February 22, 1943 ~ February 4, 2018 (age 74) 74 Years Old
On February 4, 2018, George Lee Oravetz rode his Harley through the Golden Gates after an extended illness. He was born February 22, 1943 in Tuttle, OK. He was preceded in death by his mother Mina Oravetz, father Roland Oravetz, and sister Judy Humphrey. He was married to his beloved wife Sue Oravetz for 54 years. Luckily, when she said to him upon their first meeting “Get lost, punk!,” he did not listen. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1961. George and Sue embodied the very phrase “in sickness and in health,” as Sue was his devoted caregiver for the past 13 years. George is survived by his favorite son, Keith Oravetz and his wife Becky; his favorite daughter Jennifer Wallis and her husband Justin; and his tied for favorite grandsons Kyle Delcamp and Griffin Wallis; brothers, Don Oravetz and wife Rita, Wayne Oravetz and wife Mary; sister Pat Yates and husband Don; and brother-in-law Levon Humphrey. He also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews. He was a carpenter by trade (he loved working with his brother Wayne for many years) and he could build and fix anything, a trait he passed on to his son. He could also be a bit strong-willed at times, a trait he passed on to his daughter. When George was in good health, he loved riding any kind of motor vehicle, music (especially classic country and Lyle Lovett), traveling with Sue, and CB radios, where his CB handle was “Greasy Gravy”. George loved Thunder basketball and OU football and immensely enjoyed spending time with his grandsons.

Visitation will be held 8am-12pm Thursday, February 8.
A celebration of George's life will be held 2pm Thursday, February 8 in the Chapel at Resthaven.
