February 24, 1927 ~ October 17, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old
October 17, 2017 brought to a close 90 years of a life well lived for George W. Herren. He was born February 24, 1927 in Leedey, OK to Herbert & Lydia Herren. As he grew up his father taught George blacksmithing. He had seven sisters and one brother. George served our country from 1945 through 1947. George married Phyllis Brothers and they had three children, Randy, Carla & Linda. He worked and retired from Tinker Field Air Force Base. George moved to Lake Eufaula, where he built a home on the lake. While living there he worked in home construction and was a volunteer fire fighter. In 1996 George married Jewel Thomas and moved to her home in Keota, OK. He spent his time there raising cattle and dancing. Jewel preceded him in death in 2010. George then moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to his sisters. He was also preceded in death by his parents and five of his siblings, Nadine, Vilet, Harold, Wanda and Geneva. George leaves behind three sisters, Mary Jo An, Nina and Jerry; three children; eight grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and his cat Gracie. Viewing will be from 6-8 pm on Friday, Oct 20 and 8-11 am on Saturday Oct 21 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th St., Oklahoma City, OK. George’s celebration of life will be 1:30 pm Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Southpark Baptist Church, 2900 SW 119th St., Oklahoma City, OK, and interment will be at Dale Cemetery at 3:30. Services have been entrusted to the care of Resthaven Funeral Home.
