Freddie Harold Underwood was born February 18, 1950, and passed away on January 12, 2023, at the age of 72.
Freddie was born in Checotah, OK. He attended Crooked Oak Schools where he established many lifelong friendships before taking his gifts to Southeast High School, graduating with the Class of 1968. This is where he met the love of his life, Charlene Miskovsky. They have been side-by-side for over 55 years, just having celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on December 21, 2022. He related well to the song verse, “She hung the moon…and I held the ladder.”
Following high school, Freddie worked as a postal clerk for the United States Postal Services where he retired after 36 years. He served in the Army National Guard and was a proud Chickasaw Citizen and member of the Chickasaw Warrior Society. Freddie was an accomplished athlete, but above all, he loved every aspect of golf: playing, teaching and discussing. He loved being outdoors in the open air where he could feel free and let loose. He was a grill master, excelling at the outdoor culinary arts: “charcoaling.”
Family and friends were his greatest enjoyment. He never met a stranger, but if he considered you a friend, you knew it and he truly loved you. He loved to pontificate on the ways of the world, expressing his philosophy about right and wrong - and what is correct. His credo was, “Work hard, have fun and try not to hurt anyone.” His humor and knowledge will be greatly missed. He was a wonderful husband, father, and poppie.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene; son, Quinton Underwood and his wife, Tera as well as their son, Andrew; sister, Pamela Thurman; many other extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Evangeline and Fred; brother, Gary Charles Underwood.
Freddie’s life will be honored with a viewing on Thursday, January 19, 2023 from 4:00p.m.-7:00p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home followed by funeral services at 2:00p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
