Wednesday, January 12, 2022, Fred E. McKenzie passed away at the age of 89 years old. He was born July 18, 1932, in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to John and Angie Chandler McKenzie. After high school, he went into the Air Force and married Peggy Jones McKenzie. They had four children together: Keith, Pamela, Debra, and Kevin. Marriage ended in divorce in 1973. He married Betty Bowman Watts McKenzie. She had three sons from a previous marriage: John, Randy, and Terry Watts. Upon Betty’s passing, He married Beatrice Horseman and moved to Texas. He ended that marriage in divorce. He returned home to Oklahoma, to be with his four children.
Fred loved music. He play the piano and sang. He loved playing and singing with his grandchildren. He was choir director at several churches he attended in his life time. He loved gardening and coin collecting. His loved to eat out and did so often. He loved to read.
He has an Associate Degree from Ventura College, a Bachelors Degree from Central State College, and a Masters Degree from Northeastern State College. He had many career changes in his life, from air traffic control to teacher to counselor to inspector. He retired as an inspector for the EEOC.
Fred is proceeded in death by his father John Westly McKenzie and his mother Sarah Angeline Chandler McKenzie. His brothers Kenneth, Loren Sr, Owen, and James McKenzie. His wife Betty McKenzie and two of her sons Terry and Randy Watts.
He is survived by brother Vernon McKenzie, sisters Bonnie McKenzie Keller, and LaVonne McKenzie McConnico. His four children and their spouses; Keith and Glenna McKenzie, Pamela McKenzie and David Harrison, Debra McKenzie and Roy Overstreet, Kevin McKenzie and fiancé Kathy Foster, John and Marlene Watts. Randy’s widow Rita Watts. Plus, scores of grandkids, great grandkids, and great-great grandkids. Several nieces and nephews and cousins.
