Elva "Rip" Burrows

Elva “Rip” Burrows was born on November 14, 1933, to Thomas Jefferson “Boss” Burrows and Zelma Gertrude (Warren) Burrows. Rip grew up in Pauls Valley and Oklahoma City with his siblings Tom, Claud, Roy, Ruby, and Dorothy.
Rip married Geraldine Robb and they had one son, Dale Wayne Burrows, before divorcing.
Rip married Joyce Irene Van Dusen on December 4, 1957. They lived in Bakersfield, California for a short time before making their home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had three children, David Wayne Burrows, Myrna Lynn Burrows and Karen Jean (Burrows) Hart, before Joyce’s death in 1992.
Rip married Peggy Jo McFarland on August 23, 1993. They made their home in Prague, Oklahoma, before moving to Davenport, Oklahoma in 2005. Rip gained three step-children in this union: Christy Close, Angela Crary and Christopher Winkleman. Together Rip and Peggy adopted four children: Katy Lynn, Emalee Jo, Krisslynn Nicole and Jeffrey Don Burrows.
Rip spent his career self-employed in the drywall business, making it a true family affair through the years! Until Rip’s fall in December 2018, on the job mind you, he was always on the job making sure the work was up to his standards. The fall caused a brain bleed which slowed Rip down the last two years, but he still showed up on the job sites every chance he got! Rip would have been happy had he died with his hatchet in his hand, but that was not the case. Rip died at home on Saturday morning, April 24th with his family by his side.
Rip was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, wife Joyce, children: Dale, Myrna, Christy, and Christopher; and grandson Jeremy Burrows.
Rip is survived by his wife Peggy; children: David, Karen, Angela and husband Johnny, Jerry Close, Katy, Emalee, Krisslynn and Jeffrey; 21 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends.
Services for Rip are 10:00am, Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Davenport, OK. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.
