Donald Dong-Gun Moon, 70, passed away on April 10, 2024 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Donald Dong-Gun Moon was born on June 23, 1953 in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Republic of Korea. He graduated from Gumi Elementary School, Daegu Middle School, and Daegu High School. From 1972- 1975, Donald attended Yeungnam University in Daegu, where he graduated top of his class with a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Donald joined the Korean Military in 1975 and served until 1978. He married the love of his life, Diana Bong-soon Moon on December 10, 1978. He immigrated to the United States in 1980 to serve in the United States Army until 1985. Through his dedication and service to the Army, he was able to bring his wife, mother-in-law (Kim Soo-duk) and two children to the United States, first residing in Alexandria, LA. Donald and his family moved from Alexandria to Houston, TX where he became a successful small business owner. After moving to Tulsa, OK in 1991, Donald furthered established himself as an entrepreneur and opened up multiple martial arts studios, Moon’s Martial Arts. He served as a Member of the Korean-American Peace and Unification Committee of the Americas from 1994-1996 and was nominated as President of the Tulsa Korean Association.

Donald especially enjoyed poetry, essays, and golf. He was Winner of the 1st Chosun Ilbo Spring Literary Contest for poetry, his work being titled “April.” After retirement, he had hoped to leave behind a collection of poetry and essays, but his dream was not fulfilled. He was emotional, resilient, and diligent. Throughout his entire life he was extremely responsible and devoted as a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and grandfather, making his family extremely proud.

Donald is survived by his wife Diana Moon, daughter Julie Taylor and her husband Jason, son Jason Moon and his wife Anna, and two grandsons Bowen and Ethan.


Donald is preceded in death by parents Moon Moo Ho and Yi Soon Gi and two brothers.
