Donald Joe Mapes August 27, 1930 - June 18, 2019. Born in Allen, Oklahoma to Freeman and Velma Mapes. He is married to his best friend and loving wife, Lucille Barton in Fort Bragg, North Carolina July 28, 1951. Donald served in the US Army 82nd airborne division as a paratrooper. He retired from the US postal service. In addition, Donald also worked as an Ambassador for Resthaven Funeral Home and Memory Gardens for 8 years, and for Crossroads Church for more than 30 years. He loved going to church and never missed a service until his health took a turn. He attended first Assembly of God/crossroads church, served as an usher, boardmember, altar worker as elder.
Don never met a stranger and would do anything if you needed help, he was always an example of Christ in everything he did. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would love to tease and play a joke if he could get away with it. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Lucille Mapes; sons Ted Mapes of Mustang, Randy Mapes and wife Debbie of Stratford, daughter Lue Ann Garrett and husband Terry of Norman; sister Mary Ella Garman and husband Richard of Moore; seven grandchildren, Kara Waller and husband Ilan, Jeana Lamb and husband Troy, Amy Will and husband Brett, Amanda Kennedy and husband Clent, Chandace Engles and husband Eric, Chaz Garrett, Cole Garrett and wife Kambria; 12 great grandchildren Ilan Waller and wife Natalie, Faith Waller, Kaylen Waller, Johnny Ray Lamb, Gracie Will, Sadie Will, Maesy Will, Ethan Kennedy, Elisha Kennedy, Elan Kennedy, Caden Engles, Grasha Engles.
