Don Jerry Hammond was born to Pauline and Morris Hammond in Ryan, OK, on November 9, 1939, and died on Christmas Day, 2019, in Oklahoma City of complications from many strokes.
Jerry was a man of many accomplishments in his life, but the four major ones were the births of his daughter, Ashley Hammond, and his twin sons, Derek and Damon Hammond, and the 41-year relationship he had with Jackie Patterson, his wife and soulmate. Jerry graduated from Central High School in 1957, and was a computer wizard in the early days. Jelly, as his golfing buddies called him, was an avid golfer and his only regret was that he never had a hole in one. He was a lifelong OU Sooners fan through thick and thin, enjoyed playing Santa Claus, dressing up for Halloween, and never met a kid he didn’t like. He loved country western dancing and was the life of every party.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie, of Oklahoma City; sons, Damon and Derek of Dallas; his brother, Jim Hammond and wife, Judy of Tulsa; and sister, Diane, and husband, Otis Culpepper of Lindsay; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and long-time friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Chambers Hammond Mays; father, Morris Hammond; grandparents, Daddy George and Mama Chambers; and his much-loved daughter, Ashley.
