David R. Hansel

David R. Hansel, Sr. was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on October 20th, 1924 to Helen and Harry Hansel. David moved to Oklahoma City in 1940 and attended Putnam City High School. He was co-captain of the basketball team and Vice President of his senior class. After graduation he joined the Army Air Force for the duration of WWII. He married Wanda Jean Mongold, his high school sweetheart, in 1944. They were married 75 years. After the service he attended and graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma. David went to work for American Airlines and held many positions in his 40-year career from mechanic to management. He and his family were charter members of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for 30 years. David was the junior and senior high basketball coach and player/coach for the softball teams. He was a member of the Tulsa Softball Association Board of Directors.
After retirement David and some of his friends started a senior softball team in Tulsa called The Grey Ghosts. They traveled to 5 national senior olympic championships.
David and Wanda moved to Epworth Villa in 2002 where they have enjoyed many new friendships.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Naomi Casady, two brothers Harry and John. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hansel, two sons, David Jr. and wife Jeanne, Terry and wife Nancy, one daughter, Jeanne Sorrells. David loved his four grandchildren, Jeffrey David Perkins and wife Marta Horton-Perkins, Jennifer Kay Ortiz and husband Manuel Ortiz, Kayci Lynn Weichbrodt and husband Austin, Shelly Ann Lee and husband Eric Lee. Seven great grandchildren - Destin Ortiz, Morgan Ortiz, Ashley Ortiz, Ava Weichbrodt, Mia Weichbrodt, Hudson Lee, Vivian Lee, Chris Perkins and Dylan Perkins.
The family will a memorial service at Epworth Villa - Brill Chapel, Tuesday, January 7th at 1:00 pm. 14901 N. Pennsylvania Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73134
