Courtney Browning

January 28, 1929 ~ June 19, 2020 (age 91)


Courtney DeForest Browning was born January 28th, 1929. Courtney parted this Earth on June 19th, 2020. Courtney is survived by his beloved wife Betty, sons Dee, Jim, and Russell; Jim’s wife Sheila, and Russell’s wife Lorie; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and countless cherished friends.
One of Courtney’s passions in life was serving his community. Whether through the military or the Boy Scouts of America, he was willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
Courtney spent many years in community service with Sertoma, achieving the Sertoman of the Year.
Courtney served his country in the U.S. Army; Achieving the rank of Captain in his career. He was an Executive Buyer who retired with 48 years of service with CR Anthony’s. Courtney also mentored countless youth during a lifetime of service and leadership with the Boy Scouts of America. He was bestowed the Silver Beaver Award for Distinguished Serve to Youth.
Visitation will be Monday, June 22, 2020 from 1:00pm to 6:00pm at Resthaven Funeral Home.
The celebration of Courtney’s life is a private family service. If you would like to view the service, the family kindly asks for you to watch online, at Resthaven’s website, at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 23rd.
The family asks that rather than sending flowers, you make a donation to BSA Troop 47, Church, or the charity of your choice.
Courtney is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; his son Dee Browning and his children, Brian and wife Christine, Jennifer and husband Justin Long, and Deanne and husband Matt Sparkman. Son Jim and wife Sheila Browning and their children Jarrett and Tiffany. Son Russell and wife Lorie and their children, Austin Browning, Ryan, Austin and Shelby Cruz. Daughter-in-law Diane Browning. Courtney is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren, Caleb and Briana Browning, Nate, Isaac and Silas Long, Chase, Sylas, Jaxon, and Lyra Sparkman, and Weston Fountain. Countless cherished friends also survive Courtney.
