Clara C. Butler

Clara Catherine “Katy” Grow Butler passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 97.
She was born November 25, 1919 in Cienfuegos, Cuba, to the late Ward and Concepcion Cartaya Grow. Clara’s family moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma when she was a young girl. She graduated from Classen High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in 1938. She worked in Washington D.C. during WWII as a clerk/stenographer for the United States Navy.
Ms. Butler married M SGT. Harold Edward Butler on August 13, 1945 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as soon as he returned from WWII. Their union was blessed with two sons, Michael Edward and Christopher Jon Butler. Harold Edward Butler preceded her in death on January 14, 1964. At this time, Ms. Butler returned to work for the United States Soil Conservation Service where she later retired in Temple, Texas.
She was an avid stamp and coin collector and loved to travel abroad. Clara was a wonderful artist and loved to paint, and reading was her passion.
Ms. Butler is survived by her son, Christopher J Butler, and wife Mona Butler; grandchildren Sean Butler and wife Kelly, Casey Butler, Christopher H. Butler; Catherine “Catie” Halfmann and husband Kyle and six great-grandchildren.
Ms. Butler was also preceded in death by, eldest son Michael Edward Butler, and two sisters Annette Grow Kalivoda and Rebecca Grow Lewis.
A private burial will be held at Resthaven Memory Gardens, where she will be buried alongside her late husband. The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her the last several years.
