Charlotte Ann Southerland

Charlotte Ann Southerland of Chickasha, Oklahoma, passed away on November 3, 2020, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 74 years.

Charlotte (Char) Ann Southerland was born on May 22, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Buell and Alice Mobley. Char grew up in Norman, Oklahoma, attending Norman Public Schools and graduating from Norman High School. She then furthered her education at the University of Oklahoma, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Following her education, she began her career as a Medical Technologist in Colorado Springs and later transferred to McAlister, Oklahoma. She worked in McAlister until November 4, 1974. She then she moved to Chickasha, OK to work at Grady Memorial Hospital until her retirement on May 27, 2011.

Char loved all things OU and was even a fabled OU Football season ticket holder. She also loved photography, singing, and traveling! She was a life member of the Canterbury Choral Society, serving as President of the Board at one time. While on a trip to sing in Italy Char even got the chance to meet the Pope! Char was also involved with the Board of the Festival of Lights in Chickasha, serving as President for two years.

Being the fighter she was, Char was also a survivor of breast cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Doug Southerland.

She is survived by one brother, David Mobley and wife Vicki of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one nephew, Ryan Mobley and wife Kaitlyn of Norman, Oklahoma; and her friend and companion, Pilar Escobar of Chickasha, Oklahoma.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a service will be held at later date when everyone can come together to celebrate Char’s life safely.
