Carolyn Frances Niblett Laney
October 8, 1937 – June 15, 2020
After 82 years of life well lived, Carolyn Laney left her earthly home on June 15, 2020. Carolyn was born October 8, 1937 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma to Kisiah (Kizzie) Faulk Niblett and Chester Niblett, the first of four children.
Carolyn lived a life of service, first as a teacher and social worker, before finding her passion in nursing. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education in 1965 from The University of Oklahoma before earning a Bachelor’s in Nursing from the University of Central Oklahoma.
Carolyn was often seen with a sewing needle in hand. She gave of herself humbly, without fanfare, sewing for cancer survivors and service men and women. She loved ballroom dancing, gardening, Native American Art, Opera and was never without her dogs or cats afoot. She kept every card, letter, announcement or picture ever written, printed or sent. She was a devoted friend and family member affectionally referred to as BSang, abbreviated from “bitty thang” as was her familial nickname from birth.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Herman Dale. She leaves behind her brother James (Jim) and sister Joyce Scammahorn and nieces and nephews Joy Scammahorn Orr, Hollie Niblett, James Niblett and Julia Scammahorn, as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.
Before passing, Carolyn shared she was ready for her “next journey”.
A graveside service will be held Friday June 19, 10:30 a.m. at Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the ALS Association at alsa.org.
