Carl “Willie Gene” Martin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on July 28, 2020, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years.
Willie Gene Martin was born on August 2, 1939, in Lindsay, Oklahoma. He was the son of Louis and Elsie Myrtle (Cotner) Martin. He grew up in the Lindsey, Dibble and Chickasha area, attending Dibble Public Schools. Following his education he moved to New Mexico where he worked on the Navajo Bridge, and worked for a large lumber company. He met Brenda Jean Lipsey on a blind date and they married on June 29, 1961, in Del City, Oklahoma, and they made their home in Kirkland, New Mexico. They later returned to Oklahoma City where he began his career in the Oil Fields and Starr Manufacturing. He later began working for the OU Health Sciences Center until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding dune buggies and mudding, taking care of his yard, and small engine repair and loved spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; Boone, Urnest, and Jerry and three sisters, Mae and two infants.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Martin of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Debra Miller and husband Jim of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Pennie Suttles of McLoud, Oklahoma; six grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother, Randy; three sisters, Doris, Toni and Stella; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020, at the Resthaven Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Johnny Wray officiating. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.
