Bernard “Bud” Bennett, affectionately called “Grandpa Bug” by his grand- and great grandchildren, passed away in the early morning of Friday, October 8, 2021, surrounded by family and love. Bud was born November 18, 1924, in Sparks, Kansas. While serving in the Navy during WWII, he wrote letters home to his parents every day. In 1946 he enrolled at the University of Denver, and in 1961 he began working for the IRS. Bud met his wife Elsie in 1978; they married in 1979 and were entirely devoted to one another for 42 years. In 1987 Bud retired from the IRS. Bud loved his family and learned to use any new technology that would help him keep up with their lives, writing about them all in his family history book. Bud seemed to make an impression on everyone he met with his kindness, sense of humor, intelligence, and caring. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Hazel and his siblings Norma Jean, Mary Ruth, and John. He is survived by his beloved wife Elsie M. Bennett; son Mark Bennett and his wife Sue; son David Bennett and his wife Melissa; step-son Ed Dillard; step-son Dave Dillard; 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at the Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. The memorial service will be held at Touchmark at Coffee Creek at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 13, 2021, later followed by burial at 1:00 PM at the Resthaven Cemetery in OKC. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Touchmark and to LifeSpring Hospice for their wonderful care of Bud. Condolences/memories can be posted at https://www.resthavenokc.com/tributes/Bernard-Bennett.
