September 16, 2017 brought to a close 67 years of a life well lived for Michael Andrew Calton at Norman Regional Hospital from a sudden unexpected illness. Mike was born in Oklahoma City, OK to Herbert and Pauline Calton on Jan 10, 1950 where he lived for the majority of his life. He is preceded in death by both of his parents.
Mike was thought of as a pillar in the community and when anyone speaks of him they say" he was the best man I have truly ever known". He was kind, patient, loving, adored children and would always help his friends or family in their time of need. Everyone enjoyed listening to Mike talk about all of his adventures working with the marines, presidential detail, police department, bomb squad, and TSA at Will Rogers Airport.
He married his soul mate, Jonnie Calton, on December 22, 1990 in OKC. He was a member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators as well as a member of the Oklahoma Bomb Squad Task Force.
Mike was in the US Marine Corp from 1968 - 1976 where as a graduate of the US Army Criminal Investigation School he was assigned as a Criminal Investigator for the USMC working with Federal, State & Local Authorities with additional duties connected with the Presidential Security Details. He joined the OKC Police Dept in 1977 with numerous positions in Investigations, Undercover task force operations with the organized Crime & Narcotics Unit, Mental Health Unit, and a member of the Police Peer Support Group. He joined the OCPD Bomb Squad from 1988-2007. He was a graduate of the FBI-Hazardous Devices School, and along with other numerous Bomb Squad related schools and seminars. He joined the TSA-Explosive Specialist Program in June 2007 as one of two TSS-E's assigned to OKC where he was still working until his sudden death.
Mike is survived by his wife 26 years Jonnie Calton, three daughters, Michelle Grogan and husband Dave, Angie Calton, and Mandi Gruver Williams; two sons, Chris Gruver, Chad Gruver and wife Mandy; four sisters, Cheryl Howard and husband Darryl, LaDonna Vieweg and husband Johannes, Susie Kennedy and husband Gary, and Judith Calton Davis; sister in law, Susie Conn & husband Wyman; six grandchildren, Isabella Grogan, John Gruver, Josh Williams, Gracen Gruver, Tiara Boyles, and Alyssa Boyles.
Services to celebrate his life will be 2:00pm Friday, September 22, 2017 in The Chapel at Resthaven. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00-8:00pm.
Mike we be truly missed by all his family friends and leaves a void that cannot be filled in their lives.
