Calvin Eugene Rutherford of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed peacefully into his heavenly home Wednesday, April 26 in the loving care of the doctors and nurses of the Oklahoma Heart Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving and adoring family. Calvin was born July 14, 1929 the third son of John Cambrue and Retha Belle Rutherford in Erim, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma City University receiving the foundation of the education that would serve him the rest of his life. Before this he had served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army reaching the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a long time member of Hillcrest Christian Church serving as Elder Emeritus. He retired from the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aircraft Avionics Technician for 34 years. Calvin was married for 63years to the only love of his life, Thelma Ruth Lowrie, beginning on June 17, 1954 in Del City, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife, Sons: Rev. Craig Rutherford and wife Carrie of Roanoke Virginia, Corey Rutherford of Oklahoma City. Grandchildren: Brenden Stovall and Wife Mayerly of Oklahoma City, Stephenie Stovall of New York City, Caroline Rutherford of Oklahoma City, Conner Rutherford of Roanoke Virginia, Cameron Rutherford of Oklahoma City. Great-Grandchildren: Joshua Sepulveda, Danielle Stovall, and Justin Sepulveda all of Oklahoma City. Brother: Jay C. Rutherford of Cordell Oklahoma, Sisters: Colleen Gwaltney of Wylie Texas, Lorene Black of Cordell Oklahoma, many nieces and nephews. Calvin enjoyed the Oklahoma Sooners and Thunder, trips to the lake and traveling to many parts of the country, spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed working crossword puzzles and watching “Wheel of Fortune”. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents: John and Retha, Step-Father: Henry Osborn, Siblings: Grace Rutherford of Crawford Co. Arkansas, John William (Wilburn) Rutherford of Cordell Oklahoma. Services will be held on Saturday, April 29th beginning at 10:00am at Hillcrest Christian Church, Oklahoma City. A time of visitation will be held on Friday April 28th from 1:00 pm till 8:00 pm at Resthaven Funeral Home. In lieu of Flowers, the Family is requesting memorials be sent to Hillcrest Christian Church or American Heart Association. The Family would like to express their deep thanks and love for all of the doctors, nurses and staff of the Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
